The latest issue of Higher Education in Russia and Beyond informational journal is dedicated to HSE’s 25^th anniversary. The issue opens with an interview with HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov, where he talks about how the University was originally formed, its guiding principles and the development trajectories it aims to pursue.

HSE and the publishing house Elsevier have inaugurated the Golden Reference award to recognize researchers whose articles are most cited and which have the greatest influence on the development of research and society. Higher Education in Russia and Beyond (HERB) team presents the 8^th issue of a journal aimed at bringing current Russian, Central Asian and Eastern European educational trends to the attention of the international research community. This issue covers the transformation of higher education in former Soviet republics.

Policymakers are increasingly turning to foresight techniques for guidance when addressing the wide array of problems and challenges arising in their work. A new book co-edited by Leonid Gokhberg, Dirk Meissner, and Alexander Sokolov from the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK), attempts to add another dimension – namely, opportunities – that can come from proper application of foresight techniques.  Deploying Foresight for Policy and Strategy Makers: Creating Opportunities Through Public Policies and Corporate Strategies in Science, Technology and Innovation (Springer, 2016) features essays by more than a dozen scholars on various aspects of foresight application in today’s policy environment.

On March 16, Apostolis Papakostas, Professor of Sociology at Södertörn University in Stockholm, Sweden gave a presentation of his book ‘Civilizing the Public Sphere: Distrust, Trust and Corruption’ at the HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research. Examining the interplay between distrust, trust and corruption, this book maps out the social mechanisms that make actors and organizations in the public sphere perform their activities in a civilized manner.
