HSE ISSEK Book is among Top Springer Books in ‘Technology Management’

The Springer publishing company shared the statistics on the book ‘Science, Technology and Innovation Policy for the Future. Potentials and Limits of Foresight Studies edited by Dirk Meissner, Leonid Gokhberg and Alexander Sokolov. Since its release in 2013, it has passed the threshold of 9500 downloads at the Springer website.

Asia is Learning to Consume

Asia is turning from a ‘global factory’ into a colossal consumer of goods and services, and this could lead to radical changes in the world economy, Junior Research Fellow in the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies (CCEIS), Anastasia Likhacheva, said in the paper ‘A New Model of Development in the Asian Region: Continent of Consumption’ presented at HSE’s XVI April International Academic Conference.

HSE Scholars Co-author International Encyclopaedia of the Brain

HSE Scholars Co-author International Encyclopaedia of the Brain Vasily Klucharev, Leading Research Fellow at the HSE Centre for Cognition & Decision Making, and Anna Shestakova, Director of the Centre, have become co-authors of a chapter in ‘Brain Mapping’, a three-volume encyclopaedic collection.

American Publisher Releases Book on Warren Buffet by HSE Associate Professor

Associate Professor in the HSE Faculty of Economics (School of Finance) Elena Chirkova’s book The Warren Buffett Philosophy of Investment: How a Combination of Value Investing and Smart Acquisitions Drives Extraordinary Success has just been published in the U.S. and U.K. by McGraw-Hill Professional, an American publisher. In a recent interview with the HSE news service, Professor Chirkova spoke about why she wrote it. 

Classics in New Economic Sociology

On January 27, 2015, HSE First-Vice Rector Prof. Vadim V. Radaev and Dr. Greg B. Yudin announced the closure of ‘Classics in New Economic Sociology’ - a mega translation project of the HSE Laboratory for the Studies in Economic Sociology. The project ran from 2001-2015.

Number of Tragic Deaths among the Elderly is Decreasing

Mortality among people aged over 60 due to injuries, poisonings, road accidents, murders, falls, and other external causes remains high in Russia. At the same time, the elderly commit less suicides and less frequently die in road accidents, concluded Inna Danilova, postgraduate student at the HSE Institute of Demography, in her article ‘Old-age mortality from external causes of death in Russia’.

Employees Ready to Participate in Company Management

Companies with Russian ownership more often than not have an authoritarian style of management, and their employees participate less frequently in making business decisions than their colleagues from foreign companies. This conclusion was drawn by HSE Professor Azer Efendiev in his paper ‘The Political Regime in Russian Business Entities: Results of Empirical Research’, which was presented at the HSE conference ‘Modern Management: Problems, Hypotheses, and Research’.

Academic Inbreeding Is Particularly Widespread in Russia and Spain

In early 2015 Palgrave Macmillan will publish Academic Inbreeding and Mobility in Higher Education based on the results of a joint project by the HSE Centre for Institutional Studies and the Centre for International Higher Education, Boston College. Their conclusions were published in brief in an article on the Times Higher Education website.
